Heavy/ Equipment Operators
 Operates heavy and light construction equipment in the performance of drainage related tasks to reduce flooding.
 Excavates using construction equipment to set grades, lay drain pipe, and clean drainage ditches.
 Re-grades ditches, clean culverts, storm sewers, and ponds in order to reduce and minimize flooding.
 Conducts safety inspections of vehicles and equipment, sets up barricades, cones and road signs, wears protective and safety gear as indicated for the work assignment.
 Prepares, gathers and transports tools, materials, supplies and equipment necessary to complete work assignments.
 Cleans and repairs work site upon completion of construction.
 Serves as lead and provides on the job training to light equipment operators.
 Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, training and Experience Guidelines
Three (3) years of full-time work experience performing work that is consistent with the
essential functions for this classification. OR Any combination of experience, education and/or
training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Knowledge of:
 Earthwork Construction and drainage maintenance and repair.
 Occupational safety and health regulations, practices, and procedures for area of assignment safety procedures.
 Routine maintenance and repair techniques for a variety of light and heavy equipment.

Skill in:
 Operating light/heavy machinery and equipment.
 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
 Reading safety and hazard warnings on equipment and materials.
 Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
 Understanding and following oral and writing instructions.
 Shooting grades and calculating grades, elevation and drainage fall.
 Solving construction and repair problems.
